About CPD
It is different from the general and specialist
postgraduate medical training that precedes a career
grade post. After trainees acquire a Certificate of
Completion of Training (CCT) they should participate in the
College's CPD scheme.
Whether in the NHS, universities or independent practice, CPD is
relevant to all doctors in non-training career grade posts:
- Consultants
- Associate Specialists
- Staff Grade doctors
- Trust doctors
Although it is recommended that our Members and Fellows
participate in the RCPCH CPD scheme, this is not compulsory at
present. However, CPD has relevance to clinical governance
and doctors must be able to demonstrate that CPD is being actively
maintained for appraisal and revalidation
The RCPCH CPD Scheme
The RCPCH CPD scheme provides paediatricians with a framework
for assessing their educational needs and identifying and planning
appropriate learning activities on a continuous basis, within the
context of the Professional Development Plan, and the CPD scheme
guidelines.
Participants are required to maintain an ongoing record of their
CPD activities with the College, via the online CPD diary
system. The scheme conforms to the Academy of Medical Royal
Colleges' Ten Principles for CPD.
Participation in the RCPCH's CPD programme is a major criterion
for Members and Fellows to be 'In Good Standing' with the
College.

Individuals may, however, choose to participate in the CPD
scheme of another Royal College or Faculty if they feel that this
is more appropriate to their professional requirements. In
this case, the RCPCH CPD Office should be informed.
Recording your CPD
The online CPD diary system keeps a detailed record of your CPD
activities with the College. It enables scheme participants
to view what CPD credits they have logged with the College and
maintain an ongoing record of events attended, credits claimed and
related reflective notes.
If you are already participating in the CPD scheme but have
never used the online diary before, please email the
CPD Office with
your GMC number and the email address where we will send you your
password.
Quarterly cards submissions
PLEASE NOTE:
Electronic submission of your
CPD returns via the online CPD diary system is now the routine
methodology expected of all members of the scheme. If there
are particular exceptional circumstances that make this impossible
for you, please email the
CPD Office.
