Advisory Appointments Committees


The College has a responsibility to provide independent representatives for Advisory Appointments Committees for substantive career grade posts in paediatrics in England, Wales and Northern Ireland (The Scottish Executive operates its own internal 'National Panellist' scheme).

The College Role

  • To provide an AAC panel member whose role is to prove quality assurance of the process in both the shortlisting and interview stages of an appointment.
  • The College AAC representative is usually a College Fellow who has served for at least five years in the relevant specialty and who has come from outside the Region in which the appointment is to be made.

Information on the legislation setting up the Advisory Appointments Committees (AACs) process as well as guidance from the Department of Health in England on conduct of AACs is contained in the following documents.

Please note that for application by trainees for consultant posts the maximum time limit before CCST has now been extended from three months to six months.
