Child Protection is a major area of work at the College in terms of supporting both clinicians and families. It is an important but  emotive and potentially contentious subject, and the College strives to provide clear evidence-based information.

Children in the Youth Justice System: Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing

11Million has been funded to undertake a 2 year project on Children in the Youth Justice System: Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing. Dr Rosalyn Proops, RCPCH Child Protection Officer, is representing the College on the Expert Advisory Group for this project. The terms of reference include objects to:

  1. Explore the relevant current policy, research, provision and practice
  2. Seek the views of children and young people
  3. Identify good practice and gaps in policy and provision
  4. Make recommendations the National Advisory Group on Health and Criminal Justice

    Significant Harm: the health effects of detention of children seeking asylum (10th December 2009)

      The Royal Colleges of Paediatrics and Child Health, General Practitioners and Psychiatrists and the UK Faculty of Public Health have published a policy statement and recommendations on the harms to the physical and mental health of children and young people in the UK who are subjected to administrative immigration detention.       ContactPoint rollout confirmed across England (November 2009)

      DCSF have confirmed that ContactPoint will be rolled out across England. DCSF have also published a report ContactPoint - Lessons Learned from the Early Adopter Phase, which summarises the key experiences of the early adopter organisations.
