If you are not in a UK CCT specialist
training programme, or have entered a UK paediatric training
programme at ST3 or above so will not complete a full
UK specialist training programme, you may nevertheless
have the knowledge, skills and experience required for entry
to the Specialist Register.
To be considered for entry to the
Specialist Register, your knowledge skills and experience will have
to be evaluated and this starts with an application to
PMETB.
There are two main groups of doctors involved:
- Doctors whose training or qualifications and experience,
considered together, meet the requirements of a CCT programme
in paediatrics. Doctors in this category should apply to
PMETB under Article 14(4), e.g. a doctor may have
trained in or moved to another country or taken a career break, but
may be able to show all the relevant competences have been gained
through other qualifications or experience
- Doctors who have specialist training or qualifications obtained
outside the UK, but not in one of the standard CCT specialties
(e.g. their experience may be in one of
the sub-specialties of paediatrics). These doctors
will need to demonstrate that their training,
qualifications and experience have provided them with the
knowledge and skill of a consultant in the NHS. Doctors
in this category should apply to PMETB under Article
14(5)(a).

Guidance for Article 14 applicants (Sept
2008)
-
Doctors applying under Article 14(4) or 14(5)
should see the
PMETB website for full details and guidance on
the application process. PMETB will forward your application to the
RCPCH for evaluation and recommendation.
-
If your application is successful you will be
awarded a certificate of eligibility for entry to the
Specialist Register (CESR) (but not a
CCT).
