To be considered for entry to the Specialist
Register, your knowledge skills and experience will have to be
evaluated and this starts with an application to the
General Medical Council
(GMC)
Who can apply for a
CESR?
- General paediatricians (including neonatology and
community paediatrics)
Doctors who have not completed a full UK CCT specialist training
programme ( e.g. have trained outside the UK, moved abroad, taken a
career break ) but can show that their training, qualifications and
experience, when considered together, meet the requirements of a
CCT programme in paediatrics. Doctors in this category should
apply to the GMC under Article 14(4).
- Subspeciality paediatricians
Doctors who
have specialist training or qualifications obtained outside the UK,
but not in one of the standard CCT specialities (e.g. their
experience may be in one of the subspecialties of
paediatrics). These doctors will need to demonstrate that
their training, qualifications and experience have provided them
with the knowledge and skill of a consultant in the NHS.
Doctors in this category should apply to the GMC under Article
14(5)(a).
- Academics
Doctors who wish to join the
Specialist Register after following a career in adademic medicine
in posts not approved by the GMC may wish to apply for a CESR
through Article 14(5)(b).
How to apply
Before applying please read
the
Guidance
for Article 14 Applicants
Doctors applying under Article 14(4) or 14(5) should see the
