Application Submission Dates

Phase 1 and Phase 2 Applications need to be submitted no later than four weeks before a BPSU Executive Commitee meeting

This allows time for one of our medical advisors to comment on your application prior submission to the BPSU Executive.

Phase 2 application

Phase 2 of the BPSU application requires:

  • Process - SIMPLE .jpga detailed application 
  • the submission of the research questionnaire
  • details on costing and administrative support available
  • covering letters

Phase 1 application

Phase 1 application is a short initial application submitted  to the BPSU Executive.

Applications may be rejected at this stage, particularly if they do not fit the eligibility criteria.

RCPCH Standards for Endorsement

The College's revised standards for endorsement are as follows:

S1.  The key criteria of the AGREE instrument have been met

S2.  The guideline has been developed with adequate paediatric involvement from the outset

Eligibility and funding

A study is eligible for participation in the BPSU scheme if:

  • the condition of interest is a rare childhood infection or disorder, or a rare complication of a more common disease;
  • the condition has low incidence and requires ascertainment of cases on a national scale in order to generate sufficient numbers to study;
  • it addresses the epidemiology of a condition and/or variations in practice;
  • is of scientific or public health importance;
  • it has achievable aims;

MRCPCH Setting Boards and Examinations Executive Committee Board Meetings

Board meetings are held three times a year, normally in March, July and November. Board members and examiners are invited to help in setting examination papers and scenarios. This includes editing and signing off future examination papers, reviewing new questions, vice-chair meetings for Part 1 and Part 2 and the executive committee meetings.
