PPI guidance for researchers

The British Paediatric Surveillance Unit (BPSU) has produced a guidance document for researchers on how to involve patients and the public in their research. PPI is especially important in research which does not involve individual consent, as carried out by researchers undertaking studies through the BPSU, to ensure openness, transparency and accountability to the public.

Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT & CESR CP) application information

For a paediatrician to take up a substantive, honorary or fixed term consultant appointment in the NHS, it is a legal requirement that they must be listed on the Specialist Register at the General Medical Council (GMC). For entry to the Specialist Register a trainee must apply to the College for confirmation of completion of training.

There are currently two College application forms in circulation.  This is to incorporate the two training programmes currently running:

Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT & CESR CP) for applicants that entered the run-through programme in 2007 onwards

Paediatric Prescribing Tool

Introduction

The Paediatric Prescribing Tool (PPT) has been developed as a rapid response to recent critical incidents of gross prescribing errors affecting children. A small working party of members of Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) and Neonatal and Paediatric Pharmacists Group (NPPG) created the tool based on best practice and other similar tools in current use.

This process must be followed when applying for approval of major changes to an existing programme, for example an increase or decrease in maximum training capacity.

Post and Programme Approval Process

An important element of the RCPCH's quality management process is to assist deaneries in obtaining educational approval for new training posts and programmes across the whole training spectrum. This approval is for both academic and clinical posts and programmes.

Consultant Delivered Care

In April 2012 the College published its report Consultant Delivered Care – an evaluation of new ways of working in paediatrics. The report concludes that children would receive better care if they had 24/7 access to a consultant or equivalent senior doctor.
