RCPCH - Health Bill - Update

Reports today suggest that the Deputy Prime Minister has conceded the Health and Social Care Bill may have to go back to Committee stage to undergo “significant” changes.

The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health has voiced concern around three aspects of children’s healthcare. Any changes which arise as a result of the Bill’s passage through parliament must:

RCPCH Response - Munro Child Protection Review

The Munro review has answered perfectly well the brief it was set and is a good vision for how child protection might work in the future.  What it has failed to do is acknowledge the huge turbulence within the NHS and the impact this will clearly have for the protection of children.  Health professionals such as paediatricians are on the front line of identifying children and families in need and if the Government ploughs ahead with the proposed reforms this vision risks evaporating.

Electronic BPSU Orange Card

At the end of January 2011 the BPSU commenced a nine-month trial of using an electronic Orange card instead of the current paper card. 

During the trial we hope to establish whether the high response rate, which is vital to the robustness of the BPSU, can be maintained through moving to an e-based system.

Drug allergy

The College's care pathway for drug allergy is presented in two parts:

  1. an algorithm with the stages of ideal care, and
  2. a set of competences required to diagnose, treat and optimally manage drug allergy.
