Overview

This course has been developed for paediatricians and doctors planning to work with children in low-resource settings. Through lectures, workshops and discussion, we aim to prepare participants for some of the key clinical and broader challenges that you may face when working in a low-resource setting.

Ban TV junk food ads before 9pm watershed, says RCPCH

Junk food advertising on television should be banned before the 9pm watershed in an effort to tackle soaring obesity rates among young people, warns RCPCH President Dr Hilary Cass.

A clampdown on advertising foods high in salt, sugar or fat would help protect children from unwelcome and unhealthy 'commercial exploitation', she argues.

RCPCH Officer for Wales responds to research on child back pain

The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health’s Officer for Wales, Dr Iolo Doull, commented on research which suggested that heavy school bags are causing an increase in the number of children complaining of back pain.

Dr Iolo Doull said: 'It’s clear from this research that children’s backs are put under daily strain due to heavy school bags.

RCPCH comments on child protection guidance

The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health comments on the GMC's newly launched child protection guidance.

Child Protection Officer for the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, Dr Amanda Thomas, said:

‘When a doctor suspects a child may be the subject of abuse, the prospect of communicating this to parents can be daunting.

‘This new guidance should give thousands of doctors the confidence to raise these concerns and help communicate them in the best possible way to parents.’
