RCPCH comments on National Childhood Obesity Week

In relation to National Childhood Obesity Week and following survey findings from Mend and Netmums, Dr Hilary Cass, President of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, said:

'There's no hiding from the fact that childhood obesity is a persistent problem in the UK - and overweight children are storing up future health problems. But we also have to take seriously the fact that many children are under-nourished, or struggle with eating disorders.

RCPCH launches new growth charts for school age children

Features include BMI lookup, puberty assessment and adult height predictor.

New growth charts for children aged 2-18 years launch today – designed to be more simple, accurate and relevant than previous versions.

The charts, developed by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, combine data from the WHO growth standards up to age 4 years and the UK 1990 growth reference from 4 -18 years.

They boast several new features, including:

UK 2-18 years growth chart resources

The 2-18 chart is mainly intended to assess the growth of school age children and young people. The growth of most children less than 4 years of age should be plotted on the more detailed UK-WHO 0-4 year growth charts. However, children who have been plotted on the NICM chart up to age two years can transfer straight onto the 2-18 chart.
