Children’s wards will be forced to close, warns official report

The future of some of Scotland’s centres for paediatric services are at risk with staff shortages and a lack of cash likely to lead to closures this year.

A closure of the children’s ward at St John’s Hospital in Livingston is “highly likely” this summer, a year after the service was controversially shut for three weeks due to a short-term staffing crisis, a new report from health executives has warned.

Atlas of variation: child health

'Reducing unwanted variation to increase value and improve quality'

The NHS Atlas of Variation in Healthcare for Children and Young Adults (2012) has been developed in collaboration with the Child and Maternal Health Observatory (ChiMat). 

The RCPCH was pround to host the launch of the Child Health Atlas on 14 March 2012 and shot a short film, capturing the views of Dr Shribman, Dr Ronnie Cheung (Child Health Atlas Editor) and others as the atlas was unveiled.
