Information for investigators

The BPSU welcomes applications from clinicians and researchers who wish to carry out national surveillance on rare childhood diseases.

The BPSU provides access to over 3,400 paediatricians and lessens the burden on those clinicians of requests for information from numerous different sources. The BPSU Executive also `provides expertise and support to prospective researchers to ensure that research methodologies are effective and appropriate.

BPSU studies

The BPSU supports studies that address a rare childhood disorder (or rare complication of a commoner disease) of such low incidence as to require cases to be collected nationally in order to generate sufficient numbers for the study.

Sub-specialty Training

At Level 3 of training (ST6-8), paediatric trainees have the opportunity to specialise in a specific area of paediatrics or continue in general training.

Those who complete an approved programme of sub-specialty training within the NTN grid will be eligible to enter on to the GMC Specialist Register with a CCT/CESR CP in paediatrics with sub-specialty recognition.

Exam centres - UK

MRCPCH and DCH Clinical centres

It is not always possible to confirm the address details for the UK MRCPCH and DCH Clinical Host Centres well in advance of each examination period. Once an MRCPCH or DCH Clinical Exam Host Centre has submitted confirmation that they are committed to hosting the examination the RCPCH Examinations Team will make every effort to publish the details on this page during each diet of the exam.

Paediatric Intensive Care Medicine (PICM)

PICM involves looking after neonates, infants and children from all specialties whilst they are critically ill and in need of close observation and monitoring, and frequent interventions.

Paediatric intensivists co-ordinate the management of children whilst they are in a paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), in collaboration with the specialty team that the child is admitted under.

Broad Based Training Programme

Broad Based Training (BBT) is a new two-year structured core training programme providing six-month placements in Core Medical Training, General Practice, Paediatrics and Psychiatry followed by CT/ST2 (and CT3 in Psychiatry) level training in one of the four specialties, subject to satisfactory progression. There will be 52 posts available in seven deaneries.
