Completion of Training (CCT) for SpRs

For a paediatrician to take up a substantive, honorary or fixed term consultant appointment in the NHS, it is a legal requirement that they must be listed on the Specialist Register at the General Medical Council (GMC).

For entry to the Specialist Register a trainee must apply to the College for confirmation of completion of training. The College will make an assessment of your training and make a recommendation to the GMC.

Important Update

Information for those who entered Paediatric Specialty Training at ST2 and above from August 2007 to July 2010 ONLY

Registration for training

All paediatric specialty trainees who are in GMC-approved training posts are required to be registered with the RCPCH, as set out in the Gold Guide (Reference Guide for Postgraduate Specialty Training in the UK). In order to be successfully registered with the RCPCH, all trainees will be required to pay a training fee. For more information on these fees please click here.

Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR)

The CESR is for doctors who wish to join the Specialist Register, whose specialist training, qualifications or experience was partly or completely acquired outside of an approved CCT programme. It is equivalent to a CCT and certifies that the recipient has all the competences defined in the CCT curriculum, and so is eligible for admission to the Specialist Register.
