Safeguarding Children and Young People (Named and Designated Doctor) Learning Resource

The project

The Safeguarding Children and Young People Intercollegiate Document level 4 and 5 project aims to develop and market a learning resource for paediatricians holding named and designated doctor for safeguarding posts.

The intention is to deliver materials through a blended learning approach using a variety of interactive techniques. A final decision on the delivery methods will be dependent on the final curriculum and learning outcomes to be addressed, which will be finalised following a detailed scoping and audit stage.

RCPCH Statement responding to the ‘Guiding patients through complexity – modern medical generalism' report

Professor Terence Stephenson, President of the RCPCH said:

“We welcome the report of the independent commission on the future of medical generalism, and we are pleased that it acknowledges some of the shortcomings we have previously highlighted in the treatment of children in primary care.

RCPCH Response - Munro Child Protection Review

The Munro review has answered perfectly well the brief it was set and is a good vision for how child protection might work in the future.  What it has failed to do is acknowledge the huge turbulence within the NHS and the impact this will clearly have for the protection of children.  Health professionals such as paediatricians are on the front line of identifying children and families in need and if the Government ploughs ahead with the proposed reforms this vision risks evaporating.

Health policy at RCPCH

The RCPCH Health Policy team supports members and Officers in making and shaping health service policy and standards to improve outcomes for children and young people.

 Our priorities for 2012 are:

  • Strengthen child safeguarding  in the NHS including relaunch of the Child Protection Companion

  • Develop our specialist and intercollegiate activity through shared information, projects, standards and groups
