Research Projects
The RCPCH research projects team work collaboratively with organisations and multidisciplinary teams to improve the health services available for children in the UK.
Current Projects
Clinical Outcome Review Programme/Child Health Reviews-UK (CHR-UK)
Our CHR-UK programme of work aims to assess child mortality and serious morbidity in order to improve the rates of childhood preventable deaths within the UK.
The UK-WHO growth charts can be used to monitor growth as an important measure of child health in 0-4 year olds. The College is currently in phase 2 of the project to develop an adolescent growth chart for 4-18 year olds.
The Allergy Care Pathways have been produced for parents/carers and healthcare professionals. The pathways provide a step by step guidance for both groups on how to manage serious allergy cases in children.
Urgent and Emergency Care Patient Reported Experience Measure (PREM)
The Urgent and Emergency Care PREM was created as a pilot survey to assess the paediatric patient experience within emergency centres in England. The responses have been analysed and a report is in development; the report will include key recommendations about how to use the measure effectively.
Medicines for Children: Information for Parents and Carers
Medicines for Children leaflets, produced by the College, Neonatal and Paediatric Pharmacists Group (NPPG) and children’s charity WellChild, give evidence-based and reassuring advice on how to give medicines. The leaflets are certified by The Information Standard, and available on www.medicinesforchildren.org.uk.
The HeadSmart 'be tumour aware' project is developed by the College and also managed by the Children's Brain Tumour Research Centre (CBTRC). The project aims to reduce the length of time taken to diagnose children and young people with brain tumours as well as increasing the public and professional awareness of the symptoms.
Patient Information Leaflets - Renal (Kidney) Conditions
The College is partnering with the British Association of Paediatric Nephrology (BAPN) and British Kidney Patient Association (BKPA) to produce a national patient/carer information resource about kidney conditions in infants, children and young people.
