The first in a series of one-day supplementary training events.
How to manage: Nutrition - Principles of Multi-Professional Management brings together a multi-professional team to deliver a case-study based programme for senior trainee paediatricians and newly qualified consultants.
The programme will discuss current standards and guidelines and explore hot topics such as 'short-gut', eating disorders and the neurologically disabled child through a series of interactive workshops.

Learning Objectives
This study day explores the principles of multi-professional assessment and management of nutritional problems in the clinical settings of a child with ‘short gut’, ‘eating disorder’ and ‘neurological disability’.
By the end of this study day, the delegates will:
- have an understanding of the principles of prescribing parenteral nutrition and the importance of regular monitoring
- appreciate the role of a nutritional support team and it’s members
- understand the indications for and practicalities of Home Parenteral Nutrition
- become familiar with the principles of nutritional assessment and feeding difficulties in the neurologically impaired child
- know the principles of nutritional rehabilitation in malnourished children and how to prevent refeeding syndrome
- understand indications for enteral nutritional support and practical aspects of delivery
- know where to access the existing standards and guidelines
- have gained insight into the patient/ family perspective on the difficulties experienced in caring for children with complex nutritional needs such as Home Parenteral Nutrition.
