Categories of membership

The College has over 13,500 members, the majority of whom are paediatricians or child health professionals based in the UK, though we have do have an expanding number of members and fellows who live overseas.

As well as the seven types of membership for medical doctors we run Affiliate schemes for:
- medical students
- foundation doctors
- those who are not medical doctors but who work or have an interest in Child Health.
The membership types are:
1. Junior
- Paediatric Trainees resident in the UK, preparing for the MRCPCH examinations
- admitted monthly, deadline for applications 14th of each month
2. Ordinary
a) Ordinary via examination
- passed MRCP(UK) part II in Paediatrics exam OR
- passed MRCPCH clinical exam
- admitted monthly, deadline for applications 14th of each month
b) by election
- Associate Specialist or Senior Clinical Medical Officer resident in UK
- admitted monthly, deadline for applications 14th of each month
3. Fellow
a) by entry on GMC Specialist Register in Paediatrics
- holds a substantive non training post and is on the GMC Specialist Register in Paediatrics
- admitted monthly, deadline for applications 14th of each month
b) by election
- holds a substantive non-training post and has completed specialist training and has distinction
- applicants for Fellowship by election need two Fellows to propose them, one of whom must be resident in the UK or Ireland
- admitted three times per year via Council
4. Associate (by election)
- registered medical practitioners who make a significant contribution to paediatrics or child health
- admitted monthly deadline for application 14th of each month
5. and 6. Senior Fellow/Senior Member
- Fellow or Member permanently retired
- admitted within a week of receipt of application
7. Honorary Fellow (by election)
- those who have made an outstanding contribution to the objects of the College and whom the College wish to honor

- medical students resident in the UK
- admitted within a week of receipt of application
2. Foundation Doctor Affiliates
- foundation doctors resident in the UK
- admitted within a week of receipt of application
3. Affiliates
- working in Child Health but not a medical doctor (eg Paediatric Nurse, Social Worker etc)
- admitted within a week of reciept of application
