RCPCH responds to the RCGP's bid for extended and enhanced GP training

The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) responds in support to the Royal College of General Practitioners' (RCGP) bid for extended and enhanced GP training.

President of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, Professor Terence Stephenson, who supported the Royal College of GPs' bid for extended and enhanced GP training, said:

'It is really positive that every GP in the country could, in future, receive formal training in children's health before embarking on their career as an independent practitioner – a move which will have clear benefits for children across the UK. As paediatricians, we welcome the chance to work with and support GPs locally as they train. We're now keen to see the training rolled out as soon as possible.

'It's absolutely crucial that healthcare professionals develop competencies and experience in other specialisms in order to meet the needs of patients and the changing demands.'

This scheme supports the strategic vision of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health’s 'Facing the Future' standards.
