Advisory Committee on Clinical Excellence Awards (ACCEA)

Clinical Excellence Awards are given to recognise and reward the exceptional contribution of NHS consultants, over and above that normally expected in a job, to the values and goals of the NHS and to patient care.

ACCEA 2013 – Update (25 April 2013)

Application for consideration to be awarded a Clinical Excellence Award is made by individual consultants either to their employer locally, for local awards at levels L1-L9, or to the national Advisory Committee. National CEAs are awarded at either Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum level.

Consultants can choose to seek a reference from their Medical Royal College to support their application for a national award. The RCPCH asks paediatricians who are seeking support for an application to the ACCEA to provide their draft application for consideration as to whether a reference can be provided.

At present the ACCEA, working for the Department of Health, has not yet confirmed a round of Clinical Excellence Awards will be made in 2013 (further information can be found on the gov.uk website).

However, in response to the advice issued by the ACCEA that Colleges should prepare for the possibility of a round this College is preparing for consideration of requests to support applications for national awards. These requests will be considered first regionally and then centrally as in previous years.

More details on this College process will be issued and posted on this page shortly. In the interim, if you would like to contact a member of College staff to discuss this please contact John Pettitt by email: john.pettitt@rcpch.ac.uk

As of 25 April and following accidental dispersal of ACCEA resources around the new gov.uk web site the provisional application form for a possible 2013 ACCEA process (yet to be confirmed) is here.
