Advisory Committee on Clinical Excellence Awards (ACCEA) 2012

Clinical Excellence awards are given to recognise and reward the exceptional contribution of NHS consultants, over and above that normally expected in a job, to the values and goals of the NHS and to patient care.

Latest Update on 2012 Round:

The Clinical Excellence Awards scheme is currently under review by the Review Body on Doctors’ and Dentists’ Remuneration (DDRB).  The ACCEA website was updated as follows on the 21 October 2011:

20 October 2011 - update on 2012 Round:

ACCEA is still awaiting a decision from Ministers on whether there will be a new national awards round in 2012. Although we continue to work on the assumption that there will be a new awards round, until we know this for certain we cannot open the online submission process. However it is clear that the closing date will no longer be Friday 9 December 2011. The likely closing date for the 2012 Round will not be until the New Year.

We are certain that there will be a round for renewal applications and ACCEA will be expecting renewals from those who –

• have awards that were granted in 2008, 2003, 1998 and 1993
• are on an annual renewal owing to reinstatement of their award after a return to work following retirement
• failed to renew their award in 2011 Round
• submitted inadequate evidence to justify renewal in the 2011 Round

We will write to consultants who need to renew their award when the round is launched however, the onus is on the award holder to ensure the award is renewed at the correct time.

We will update the website again as and when we have further information.  

We have sought advice from the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges and in line with their decision, are currently maintaining our existing deadlines.

If you wish to seek College support, complete applications must be received, in line with the following: 

• Platinum: 5.00pm on Thursday 6 October 2011.
• Gold, Silver and Bronze: 5.00pm on  Tuesday 1 November 2011

The College will only consider applications on these, 2012 forms. Your application to ACCEA however must be via the online system, as and when this opens. Please read and follow their guidelines about submitting your application.
