Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA)
The MHRA is responsible for the regulation of medicines and medical devices and equipment used in healthcare and the investigation of harmful incidents.

National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA)
The NPSA leads and contributes to improved, safe patient care by informing, supporting and influencing organisations and people working in the health sector.

National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcome and Death (NCEPOD)
NCEPOD assists in maintaining and improving standards of medical and surgical care for the benefit of the public by reviewing the management of patients, by undertaking confidential surveys and research, and by maintaining and improving the quality of patient care and by publishing and generally making available the results of such activities.

National Institute for Health Research (NIHR)
The NIHR commissions and funds NHS, social care and public health research to develop the research evidence to support decision making by professionals, policy makers and patients. It makes this evidence available and encourages its uptake and use, for example, through NHS Evidence, which provides clinical and non-clinical evidence and best practice, to make informed decisions.

National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE)
NICE develops evidence-based guidelines, quality standards, undertakes technology appraisals and runs a diagnostics and medical technologies programmes.

Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN)
SIGN develops evidence based clinical practice guidelines for the National Health Service (NHS) in Scotland.
