Supporting Deaneries and LETBs

This section is intended for Deaneries/LETBs, contains guidelines and information on procedures that relate to the quality management of paediatric training.

On this page:

Externality

The Gold Guide specifies external representation at the following events:

  • 10% of ARCP outcomes for each Deanery/LETB
  • Triggered/monitored visits
  • Appeal panels

The use of external representation is vital to ensure that standards are upheld and also to maintain the robustness and fairness of the process, applying the principles of equality and diversity.

It is the responsibility of the Deanery/LETB to ensure external representation takes place.

For queries on externality and help securing representation, please contact qualityandstandards@rcpch.ac.uk

Post and programme approval

An important element of the RCPCH's quality management process is to assist Deaneries/LETBs in obtaining educational approval for new training posts and programmes. This approval is for both academic and clinical posts and programmes.

The General Medical Council (GMC) has sole responsibility for the approval of training posts and programmes. As part of the approvals process the GMC will require a letter of support from the College before any approval is given to new posts, programmes or locations.
