Developing a revalidation e-system

Information on an Academy of Medical Royal Colleges-funded project to develop an online revalidation portfolio to support paediatricians' collection of evidence for revalidation.

Aims

Development of an RCPCH online revalidation portfolio that meets the needs of paediatricians, with links to the existing online CPD diary system and future national revalidation appraisal systems as required.

Objectives

1. To scope out paediatricians' requirements for an online revalidation portfolio to enable them to collect, collate and summarise supporting information that demonstrates compliance with College and national GMC revalidation standards, and produce a functional specification for such a system, including use of common ideas with the e-system cohort group

2. To develop core functionality in accordance with agreed functional specification

3. To pilot a test version of the system with paediatricians to test functionality, access, reporting and links with other systems.

Timeframes

January 2010 -July 2012 (initial date projection)

Your involvement

The project is now at the stage where we are beginning development work (September 2011) and a virtual reference group of paediatricians has been requested to test the portfolio and give us their views via structured tests and informal feedback. This will ensure the portfolio is developed to meet the needs of paediatricians across the UK.  The request for testers was sent out in the College e-bulletin in August 2011.
