Taking the Right Steps - Children’s Rights: Wales and the World
Monday 11 and Tuesday 12 June 2012, Swansea University, School of Law
In May 2012 the Children and Young Persons Rights Measure will come into effect in Wales. The Conference will provide an opportunity to consider the likely impact of the Measure for children’s rights and children’s services in Wales, and to highlight what Wales might learn from, or contribute to, other nations seeking to give effect to the UNCRC in domestic legislation. The Conference will be of interest to those with an interest in children’s rights whether as professionals, policy-makers or academics. A range of speakers and group sessions will cover various issues relating to the implementation of children’s rights in Wales, but also adopting wider European and international perspectives.
This Conference is free of charge to all delegates.

Safeguarding Children and Young People in NHS Wales: 'Looking through a different lens' Conference
Thursday 21 June 2012, Future Inns, Hemingway Road, Cardiff, CF10 4AU
The aim of this conference is to bring together key health service personnel to raise awareness of current issues in safeguarding children and young people and consider actions to improve safeguarding practice. Learning outcomes include:
- develop a full understanding of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and to embed in practice throughout NHS Wales
- explore measures to be taken by NHS Wales to meet the child poverty strategy requirements
- discuss the public health aspects of safeguarding and the implications for health organisations and practice
- consider the messages from health management reviews and the implications for health services.
This conference is free of charge. The deadline for registration is Friday 13 April 2012. A charge of £40 will be applied for non attendance if delegates do not cancel before Thursday 31 May 2012.

The Third Cardiff ECG Course, Wales Paediatric Cardiovascular Network
Paediatric ECG Made Relevant to Clinical Practice
Friday 22 June 2012, Radisson Blu Hotel, Cardiff City Centre
The course is designed to address specific and practical clinical questions that clinicians and trainees face in every day's work in paediatric medicine. The lectures will be delivered as simultaneous four workshops in small groups consisting of maximum 25 individuals in each room for ultimate learning experience, and maximum delegate-expert interaction. At the end of the course participants are expected to interpret paediatric ECG confidently and initiate appropriate management action on acutely presenting clinical problems.

A Sixth Update in Genetics for Paediatricians

Children and Young People's Research Network and Academic Paediatric Association Joint Conference 2012
Friday 5 October 2012, SWALEC Statium at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff
This FREE event will focus on research relevant to child health with oral and poster presentations highlighting key scientific advances in children's health from around the UK. £100 prizes will be awarded to the best oral presentation and best poster presentation. British Paediatric Neurology Association - PET 1
Tuesday 4 December 2012, Glan Clwyd Hospital
This PET 1 course has been developed to improve practice within childhood epilepsies. It is suitable for all health professionals providing primary or secondary level care for children with epilepsy. It is a one-day course and consists of short teaching sessions with interactive workshops. A pre-course workbook with essential learning material will be circulated to attendees before the course. Please note that spaces are limited to 32 places. The course fee is £189.
