Diploma in Palestinian Child Health (DPCH)
With funding from the David Baum International Foundation and Medical Aid for Palestinians, the RCPCH has been working with local partners to train healthcare professionals in Palestine for more than a decade.
The DPCH programme(PDF, 52KB, 2 pages) aims to improve the health of children living in the West Bank by delivering sustainable high quality training in paediatrics and child health, to improve the competences of Palestinian doctors and nurses.

February 2012 || DPCH Graduation held in Palestine
The 14 January 2012 saw the graduation of 20 Palestinian students (doctors and nurses), having successfully completed the DPCH. The third graduation ceremony of DPCH course was held in a large auditorium at Al Quds Medical School, courtesy of our Palestinian partner Al Quds University. Professor Terence Stephenson (RCPCH President), who delivered the certificates, spoke on a child-centred health service which although a new concept was received with great interest. Overview
The Diploma in Palestinian Child Health training programme was jointly developed by the RCPCH, Juzoor Foundation for Health and Social Development and Al-Quds Medical School.
DPCH:
- Uses innovative forms of continuing medical education including self-directed learning, the bio-psychosocial approach, children's rights and evidence based child health to improve Palestinian and UK Paediatrics;
- trains Palestinian doctors and nurses to improve competences in paediatric healthcare to improve Palestinian children's health;
- trains Palestinian doctors and nurses to help them use resources more efficient and create an innovative practice.
The programme includes:
- local teaching sessions for Palestinian primary care doctors and nurses
- workshops to support Palestinian primary care doctors and nurses
- provides an e-based learning format for professionals to work through, study and review with supervisors and peers
- development of materials, including student workbooks and tutor guides to support the teaching programme.
We aim to achieve our mission by:
- improving Palestinian and UK paediatric collaboration by addressing innovative forms of continuing medical education including self-directed learning, the biopsychosocial approach, children's rights and evidence based child health
- training Palestinian doctors and nurses to improve competencies in paediatric healthcare and thus improved health of Palestinian children
- more efficient use of resources; innovative practice.
The course benefits from:
- local teaching sessions, workshops and support to Palestinian primary care doctors and nurses
- the provision of an e-based learning format that can be worked through when professionals are available to study and reviewed with supervisors and peers
- the development of appropriate materials (student workbook and tutor guide) to support the teaching programme.
DPCH team
