Information for health workers in low-resource settings

WHO Essential Interventions, Commodities and Guidelines for Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (RMNCH)

The Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health reviewed 142 interventions aimed at improving RMNCH in low-income countries. This global review aims to develop a consensus on how to move forward in a coordinated manner so as to achieve progress towards the MDGs.

Teaching Aids at Low Cost (TALC)

There is a wide range of information available on CD-ROM through subscription to the e-TALC project which would be helpful to those working in low-income countries.

These papers cover a variety of topics relevant to paediatricians working overseas in low-resource settings:

Randomised trials in child health in developing countries 

A booklet summarising evidence from randomised clinical trials over the last year. A useful resource for child health professionals working in settings where up-to-date health information is hard to find.          

Medecins sans Frontieres (MSF) Scientific Day 2011

MSF's annual Scientific Day was held on 1 July 2011 at the Royal Society of Medicine. Many of the presentations will be of interest to paediatric trainees working in international child health; for example:

  • lead intoxication in children in Nigeria
  • telemedicine for paediatric consultations in Somalia a
  • screening for multi-resistant bacterial carriage in malnourished children in Niger.
