David has been Medical Director of Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust since 2010 and worked as a Consultant Community Paediatrician in Cambridgeshire since 1991, having qualified from Oxford University and then trained in Paediatrics in the north of England. Until becoming a Medical Director he was Designated Doctor for Children’s Safeguarding. His clinical practice continues in the area of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Children’s Palliative Care. He has a long standing interest in Children's Palliative Care, completing a diploma in palliative medicine in 2006 and is part time Medical Director of East Anglia's Children's Hospices. He has also been a Trustee of several national charities in this field.
Nationally he served six years as a Senior Officer (Registrar and then Treasurer) of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health until 2013 and is currently Treasurer of the British Association for Community Child Health. He has been a Clinical Assessor for the National Clinical Assessment Service and is currently an Expert Advisor for the General Medical Council and an External Clinical Advisor for the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman. He has sat on several NICE Guidelines Committee including being Chair the End of Life Care for Children Committee. David is married to a children’s nurse consultant who works in the voluntary sector and they have three children.
