Prioritisation for bookings

Following confirmation of allocated exam places, prioritisation will take place to ensure that those with places in the October exams have first access to course places. No direct bookings will be taken before this and unfortunately, due to high demand, we will not be able to hold places for those not allocated an exam place in the first instance but are pursuing one via the waiting list.

Even though places will not be confirmed on the course until shortly before the course date, you are advised to prepare your work/home arrangements for Tuesday 13 September to enable your attendance to the course.

For overseas candidates

We are aware that there are a number of exams taking place at a similar time as the UK exams and you are welcome to register your interest for a place on this course. However, please note that booking information will be released to those known to have an exam place around the time that UK candidates will be contacted which may be earlier than your allocation has been confirmed. Therefore there is the possibility that you may not be able to get a place on the course even if you do get a confirmed exam place.

Overview

You will receive highly specialised advice and practice in the stations:

  • Communication
  • Short clinical
  • Child development
  • Video
  • History taking and Management planning

The teaching faculty is comprised of highly experienced paediatricians. This elite team will help you to have a better grasp of the assessment criteria as well as identifying and explaining the skills needed to succeed at each station. It will also address areas of practice you may find difficult, such as how to conduct a developmental assessment.

The course is highly interactive with workshops, small group work, discussions and role play with professional actors. This course also provides a safe learning environment to encourage you to ask questions and share good practice with others preparing for the exam.

To help you get the most out of the course, you will be required to complete the online activities ahead of attending. This includes a pre-recorded child development lecture, child development videos and a brief pre-course evaluation.

Really helpful having speakers who have actually been involved in the development of the exam. I found it especially helpful being able to practise and observe others doing cases in the format and timing of exam, with feedback after.

Aim

To equip paediatric trainees with the knowledge and skills to succeed in the MRCPCH Clinical exam.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course you will:

  • Be fully aware of the exam format and what to expect in their assessment on the various stations
  • Have developed a clear understanding and familiarity of the assessment criteria and its application in the exam
  • Have a clearer understanding of what is required to pass each station through knowledge of the assessment criteria
  • Understand the common pitfalls and how to avoid them.
  • Be able to reflect on the content, knowledge and further revision needed to ensure success in the MRCPCH Clinical exam

Very well delivered, and encouraged participation from everyone which helps banish the nerves about the exam

I thought the format was brilliant and clear. The faculty were all very clear, helpful and reassuring.

Technical requirements

    - a headset connected to your laptop/desktop or tablet
