Overview 

This course will increase your skills, knowledge and confidence in the diagnosis and management of critical congenital heart defects in neonatal patients.

Through a mixture of lectures and interactive workshops, we will cover topics such as: 

  • critical neonatal heart disease
  • neonatal ECG – top tips
  • functional echo and neonatal PDA (patent ductus arteriosis) assessment
  • persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn

Learning aims, objectives and outcomes 

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • describe the clinical features and diagnosis of critical congenital heart disease in the neonate
  • discuss the medical and surgical management, including early diagnosis and acute resuscitation, of neonates with heart disease
  • revise diagnosis and management of PPHN (persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn)
  • apply top tips to interpret neonatal ECG (electrocardiogram)
  • discuss functional echo and neonatal PDA assessment.
