This one-day online course, and accompanying pre-course eLearning, aims to equip named and designated doctors (namely paediatricians) working with looked after children with a comprehensive understanding of their role, and develop the skills needed to fulfil their wide-ranging responsibilities as leads in both their organisations and the multi-agency arena.

Target audience
Named and designated doctors for looked after children and medical advisers for adoption.
This course will be focusing on paediatricians undertaking these roles however named and designated doctors from other specialties are also welcome.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Outline different responsibilities of your role as a named or designated LAC doctor
- Describe how understanding of key and emerging issues can be translated into improved local service provision
- Identify ways of evaluating local practice based on the sharing of experience with peer professionals

Pre-course eLearning
As part of this course, participants will be given access and required to complete the Supporting named and designated doctors for looked after children eLearning modules on:
- Educational training
- Service provision
- Leadership and teamwork
These eLearning modules (which take approximately three hours to complete) will be available to delegates from April 2023.
Technical requirements
- Windows or Mac computer (laptop/desktop or tablet)
- An internet connection – broadband wired or wireless (3G or 4G/LTE). Minimum bandwidth is 600kbps (up/down) and recommended is 1.5 Mbps (up/down)
- Microphone and speaker - either using:
