About the Sir Peter Tizard Bursary
The Sir Peter Tizard bursary was my first exposure to epidemiology and surveillance. The experience I gained has been instrumental in developing my career in leading the surveillance of preventable infections at Public Health England.
Each year we invite trainee paediatricians and newly qualified consultants to apply for this bursary. The successful applicant receives a fully funded slot on the BPSU e-card ('orange card') and a stipend towards their training needs.
The two main purposes of this bursary are to advance the research and data that exists on particular rare childhood disease and to enable paediatricians to further develop their research knowledge and skills, including the integral role of patient and public involvement in research.
Applicants must be a member of RCPCH or a Collegiate Member of Faculty of Paediatrics or Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, and a specialty trainee, academic trainee or new consultant working in the NHS or Irish public health care system. You cannot have led a BPSU study before nor have submitted an application to BPSU on the same topic.
Applications are open until Monday 21 October.
