Casting call for paediatricians - recruitment video

Fancy answering some inquisitive young people’s pressing questions about paediatrics? Confident in front of a camera? Could you help us create a video aimed at recruiting a new generation of paediatricians?
Closing date

What is this about?

We're putting together a campaign to attract more people to choose paediatrics. The centrepiece of the launch is a new film, which we'll produce with a creative agency, Portland.

This is a bold, unique and fun concept. We've come up with it after extensive research. And we hope the film will shine a light on all the reasons paediatrics is such a rewarding and challenging career. This film will be focused on messaging for medical students and foundation doctors. The College is also working on separate plans around retention challenges in paediatrics.

Can you help bring this idea to life?

Children and young people will put paediatricians through their paces in a The Apprentice style setting, testing their mettle on a broad range of skills - from softer communication and empathy skills (do they know the words to baby shark? Can they get a withdrawn teenager to open up to them?) to more complex and clinical medical skills.

We're looking for five lively, upbeat, fearless and fun practising paediatricians to feature in the film. Whether a new trainee or a consultant who has been working for decades, we'd love to hear from you!

You'll need to be available for a full day shoot on Tuesday 10 September in London (this date is fixed).

How can you show interest?

To find our final cast list, we ask everyone who is interested to submit a short video. Consider this your audition!

Don't worry about your video's production quality - as long as we can see and hear you! - just record yourself on a smartphone or camera for about five minutes. There are no right or wrong answers – the team at Portland just wants to get to know you.

  • A short intro – Your full name, age, where you’re from, job title
  • What got you into paediatrics?
  • What’s the strangest tale you have from your time working in paediatrics?
  • What’s the best thing about being in the profession?
  • What tip would you pass onto a colleague to help them cope with work stresses?

Then, drop your video into this shared folder by end of day, Wednesday 21 August, and email to confirm you have submitted your film (or if you have any questions). Portland and RCPCH team will review and get back to you.

More detail

We’ll be looking for a good mix of contributors representing the profession's breadth as best we can. If you aren’t selected this time around, there will be other ways to contribute to the campaign!

We know your time is precious and are incredibly grateful for your consideration. We will pay expenses in line with the College’s expenses policy. We are sure this will be a fun day for a worthwhile cause.
