Request research project support

The Research and Evaluation Team can provide support in planning, developing and delivering research projects.

Research and evaluation at the RCPCH

We undertake, develop and support research to improve healthcare outcomes and provision to children, young people and their families.

The team manages a range of UK-wide research projects. These include RCPCH-led projects and projects in collaboration with academic and not-for-profit organisations. We also work to increase paediatric research capacity and ensure children and young people are ethically and actively involved in research.

If you have a research project idea or planning to develop a research project

We can work in partnership with organisations to develop and deliver research. We offer project management and methodological support, children and young person engagement support and stakeholder representation.

How we assess research projects for support

We use this research priority framework:

 Priority area

 Key questions to consider

  • Does this proposal fit the RCPCH’s stated Research and Policy priorities?
  • Does this proposal relate to other areas of RCPCH work (e.g. Quality Improvement, Health Policy, clinical guidelines/Research and Evaluation, Education and Training)?
  • What is the issue that requires investigation?
  • How will this work impact:
  • - Infants, children and young people’s health outcomes
    - Outcomes for parents and carers
    - Outcomes for healthcare professionals
    - Cost effectiveness for NHS

  • Is there any current work ongoing or new evidence identified in the specified area? What is the added value of the proposed work?

 Social/ethical concerns

  • Have social and ethical considerations been explored? (e.g. consent, safeguarding)
  • Does this work require research ethics approval? (might be only relevant for research proposals)
 College impact
  • Is this work funded? If not, what avenues of funding are being explored?
  • Why would you like the support of the RCPCH to develop and deliver this work (or endorsement in the case of clinical guidelines)?
  • How will impact be measured?
  • What is the time period before impact can be measured and realised?
  • Is the proposed work value for money?
