RCPCHStart guides you as you prepare for completion of training and practice as a new consultant. It assesses your abilities in relation to clinical decision making as a new consultant and helps you to address any gaps that you may have in your training.

To find out the eligibility and how to apply, see our guidance for trainees. Note that if you belong to a 'grid' sub-specialty, you may have to take the assessment at a specific session (Spring or Autumn).

You do not need to do any ‘revision’ – the scenarios should be examples of your ‘day-to-day’ work. You will probably find it helpful to familiarise yourself and keep up to date with NICE guidance and GMC guidance on confidentiality, consent, capacity, duty of candour, colleague in difficulty, answering complaints and safeguarding. You may want to consider going through your drug charts with a pharmacist.

You can bring food and drink with you. Pens and paper will be provided, but you might want to bring a highlighter.

You can read more about the circuit, watch our videos and download example scenarios on our how it works page.

Your feedback report will appear in your ePortfolio account about six weeks after the assessment.
