PAFTAs presented at RCPCH Conference in 2018

The College’s national awards in paediatric training (the “PAFTAs”) have been presented to three deserving recipients.

At the RCPCH’s recent Conference in Glasgow, the College’s national awards in paediatric training (the “PAFTAs”) were presented to three deserving recipients. Each had been the winner of the PAFTA process in their respective region, and had then been successful in a national judging process managed by RCPCH.

The winner of the Best Senior Trainee category (the Simon Newell Award) was Dr Harriet Barraclough of Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust. The nomination for her work, written by one of her colleagues, said that she:

“...is a paediatrician who can lead effectively and responsibly. She is an amazing role model who will let you know clearly what needs to be done and will support and encourage team members to develop and improve patient care; she is honest, kind and approachable.”

The winner of the Best Educational Supervisor category was Dr Sophie Vaughan. The nomination for her work said:

“Sophie provides exemplary support for junior colleagues and leads by example. She is a role model in her clinical and educational work. She advocates for patients, families and all MDT staff. Sophie displays integrity and modesty through her work and I cannot think of anyone who deserves this award more.”

Sadly, the third winner, Dr Julia Fuchs (Best Junior Trainee) was unable to attend the conference. Her nomination said that she:

“...is an exemplary trainee who works with enthusiasm and commitment in the fulfilment of her work. She ‘goes the extra mile’, and has volunteered for three diabetes camps. Multisource feedback confirms that all colleagues greatly value her work within the team.”

The process and timeline for the 2019 PAFTA awards will be announced shortly via the College website.
