Following on from our update on 7 January, we wanted to let you know as soon as possible the outcome of our meeting on 8 January with the Health Education England (HEE) Lead team for paediatric recruitment.
Whilst recognising the immense strain everyone is under at the moment and likely to be over the coming weeks and months, it is still very much our intention to continue with Plan A as the preferred option for ST1 recruitment (see Level 1 (ST1) application guidance). This will allow virtual interviewing to enable the most supportive assessment of each candidate's passion for paediatrics.
We believe that through a combination of our interviews taking place in late February, that interviews will be remote thereby removing regional barriers and that there is a huge willingness amongst the trainee and consultant workforce to support remote interviews, this is still possible at the moment.
That said, we know that things are constantly changing and therefore we will continue to keep this under review working closely with our colleagues at HEE to do so and ensuring we keep the four Statutory Educational Bodies appraised of our intentions and that it meets with their approval.
For now, please ensure you book your MSRA and we will continue to keep you updated with any further developments.
This is also a reminder of the resources available on the our Level 1 (ST1) application guidance page to support you in this process, including a reminder of Plan A and Plan B options. You will also find a wealth of help, support and advice from the UK Aspiring Paediatricians Society (UKAPS) - see the UKAPS website and Twitter feed, or contact email@example.com.
Again if you do have any concerns please contact the College's Recruitment & Careers team, who will do their best to help you: firstname.lastname@example.org, or our colleagues at HEE if you have any procedural queries: paedsNRO@hee.nhs.uk.
With best wishes
Simon Broughton, Officer for Recruitment
Emma Coombe, Trainee Representative for Recruitment
