In 2019 we responded to NHS England’s consultation on cancer services for children, teenagers and young adults. While we welcomed the direction of travel we identified a number of areas for improvement.
In 2018 we responded to the Science and Technology Committee's inquiry into energy drinks. We welcome the increased scrutiny on food and beverages that have low or no nutritional or therapeutic value, contain potentially harmful ingredients and are heavily marketed to children and young people.
We have submitted evidence to NHS England on the populations of Health & Justice, Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCs) and Armed Forces in the Long Term Plan for the NHS. In developing our response, we have consulted with our Child Protection Standing Committee and the NSPCC.
We have submitted evidence to NHS England on how mental health should be considered within the Long Term Plan. Our response focuses on the mental health needs, support and services available for the 0-25 age group.
The RCPCH welcomes the Government’s intention to develop a Green Paper on Prevention and looks forward to supporting its development. We hope that our priorities and policy recommendations for prevention, published in June 2019, will be fully incorporated into the upcoming Green Paper.
