BMA Foundation - Medical Research Grants

Provides funding to encourage and further medical research in a variety of areas. Applications are invited from doctors and research scientists and can be for either research in progress or prospective research.

British Council for Prevention of Blindness - Research Grants

Grants are offered for research projects that further the goals of ‘VISION 2020: The Right to Sight’. Research grants are available to clinicians, scientists or epidemiologists for 'pump-priming' to develop their research ideas and generate pilot data to facilitate a future application for a substantial grant or to provide funding for a non-clinical PhD or DrPH studentship.

British Council for Prevention of Blindness - Research Mentorship Awards

These aim to build research links between hospitals and universities in developing countries and UK universities or NHS Trusts, with the goal of building research capacity. Awarded to enable applicants from developing countries with a colleague or mentor in the UK to work together to develop a research project.

Provides a grant of up to £100,000 to support the training of a graduate student to take up a career in ophthalmic and vision research and leading to the presentation of a PhD.

Fight for Sight - Small Grants Award

Funds clinical research studies in the field of ophthalmology and vision science. Offers competitive funding to support small feasibility studies and facilitate the generation of preliminary data. The aim is to make novel research ideas more competitive for larger follow-on funding.

Medical Research Council (MRC) - Clinical Research Training Fellowship (CRTF)

Supports clinically active professionals within the UK to undertake a higher research degree. The MRC collaborates with a number of Royal Colleges and charity funders to offer jointly funded Clinical Research Training Fellowship awards.
