Breastfeeding in the UK - position statement
The UK has one of the lowest rates of breastfeeding in Europe. We strongly support national policies, practices and legislation that are conducive to breastfeeding, as well as promotion, advice and support to new mothers. Our messages and recommendations in this statement are specific to the UK.

In 2018, we responded to the Health and Social Care Select Committee’s inquiry into the first 1,000 days of life. We support efforts to improve the first 1,000 days, recognising how important they are for children’s health and development in later life.
