There will be separate vacancies for ST1 & ST2 posts.

The vacancies and process will be managed by the PaedsNRO, in conjunction with the HEE Midlands and East office.

All applicant queries regarding ST1 and ST2 should be sent to: paedsnro@hee.nhs.uk

For all details on the application process for ST1 & ST2 posts for 2018, including links to general HEE recruitment documents please refer to the ST1 & ST2 applicant guide: ST1 & ST2 Applicant Guide 2018

3. Accessing the Oriel Application System

All specialties/deaneries/LETB's will be using the Online Oriel Application System to coordinate the full application process all the way from application through to offers. If you wish to apply for a paediatric specialty training post you will need to register on the Oriel Application System before you can submit an application. Applicants are advised to register on Oriel in advance of the application window opening' if possible.

4. Post numbers and interview dates

Indicative post numbers and interview dates will be posted on the ST 2017 Deanery information page from 31st October 2018. This information is subject to change, so you are advised to check it regularly.

Post numbers will be updated as soon as they are given by the deanerys/LETBs, so do check the Deanery information page and Oriel vacancy regularly throughout the process.

5. Person specifications

Before applying for an ST post you are advised to ensure you meet the requirements outlined in the appropriate person specification. 2018 person specifications can be found below:

ST1 2018 Paediatric Person Specification (PDF, 355 KB).

ST2 2018 Paediatric Person Specification (PDF, 355 KB).

Person Specifications can also be accessed by visiting the HEE Specialty Recruitment website.

With regards to GMC status: you must be registered with, and licensed by, the GMC by the intended start date of the post you are applying for. You do not need to be registered or licensed by the GMC at the time of application.

6. Past application numbers & competition ratio

In 2017, 580 applications were made for 420 posts overall across the UK, of which 480 applicants were invited to interview.

The competition ratio for paediatric posts was therefore 1 : 1.31; equivalent to a little under one and a half applicants for every post advertised.

Both overall application numbers and consequently also competition ratios were down for the 2017 National Recruitment Round 1 and as a consequence, some posts wer re-advertised in the National Round 1 re-advert. Until successful applications have been processed to interview, it will not be possible to confirm whether or not posts will be re-advertised in 2018. A decision on this will therefore be made no later than the end of January 2018. Please check this page again for further updates.

Some regions do prove more popular than others, however with applicants now able to preference any or all of the preferences for any or all regions, it is not possible to give an accurate competition ratio by region.

Overall fill rates for the 2017 rounds of recruitment were as follows:

  LETB/deanery
Number of posts /  (2016 comparison)
Offers accepted 2017 /
(2016 comparison)
Fill rate % 2017
