Alison Steele is a Consultant General Paediatrician, specialising in safeguarding children. Following qualification from Southampton University she trained in the North East of England and has spent most of her professional career as a Consultant also in the North East, firstly in Gateshead and then in Newcastle upon Tyne.
She has variously held posts as Named Doctor for Safeguarding Children, Designated Doctor for Safeguarding Children and for Looked After Children and is a qualified Forensic Medical Examiner.
Alison moved to London in 2016 and has worked at Great Ormond Street Hospital and at the Tavistock Hospital and is currently working part time for a private hospital in London as a Named Doctor for Safeguarding Children.
Alison was the RCPCH Officer for Child Protection for five years from 2018 to 2023. She is working with the Department for Education providing health input on the social care reforms and to the rewrite of the Working Together to Safeguard Children guidance.
She took up the post of RCPCH Treasurer in January 2024.
