Services in all four nations of the UK are facing significant challenges in delivering care to children and their families. We have been analysing data where available and gathering insights from our members, and are calling for change.
Across the UK, our reports make specific recommendations under five themes
Data on community paediatric waiting times are published on a monthly basis and the College has frequently drawn attention to these long waits, which have not recovered since COVID-19.
Community paediatric data is not consistently available in Scotland, but we've gathered insight from members and are bringing recommendations directly to Members of the Scottish Parliament.
Community paediatric data is not publicly available in Wales. But with Freedom of Information responses we provide a spotlight on each health board and set out our asks of the Welsh Government.
Regional data from 2020 to 2023 showed an almost 86% rise in the number of community paediatric 'waiters' in NI. As in other nations, we used data from FOIs and member insights, and our recommendation themes include strategic models of care and neurodiversity.
In September 2024, we published our 'blueprint', calling on the UK government to commit to restoring all child health services. Focused on England, this set the case for fair funding, a sustainable workforce and data and digital innovation.
We published briefings on each of the three proposed shifts in the 10 Year Health Plan for the NHS in England, including 'from hospital to community'. To work well for children and families, this needs investment and focus.
