NHS 10 Year Health Plan

The UK Government released this plan on 3 July 2025, outlining long-term priorities for improving health outcomes in England. Over past months we've been making the case for children and the child health workforce - with members and with children and young people. We recognise the plan's potential and look forward to working closely with Government and NHS leaders to deliver on child health.

We welcome the inclusion of children and young people in the new 10 year health plan. However, this now needs an implementation plan tailored to CYP, equitable investment and a long term workforce plan.

In late 2024 and early 2025, we held workshops with children and young people with varied lived experiences, with members and with stakeholders in health research., and sent a summary to the Change NHS consultation.

In late 2025, our Health Policy team (with senior clinical leaders) and RCPCH &Us team (representing the voice of children, young people and families) each submitted an organisational response to Change NHS.

Our initial response to the Plan

RCPCH President Professor Steve Turner, said of the Plan's publication: "It makes a bold and welcome commitment to transforming the NHS into a more accessible, community-focused service, and offers a vital opportunity to reimagine how we deliver care to children and families... Fundamentally, the success of this plan will also depend on sustained investment in the paediatric workforce."

Our blueprint for health services

In September 2024, we called on the UK government to improve health outcomes in England. We set out three targeted areas for a health system under pressure: urgent and emergency care, community health services and the interface between primary and secondary care.

In spring 2025, Officer for Health Services Dr Ronny Cheung spoke with Head of Health Policy Alison Firth and Public Affairs Lead Bruce Warwick about how the blueprint helped secure commitments to deliver children's health care equitably at a national and local level.
