Martin is Emeritus Professor of Paediatric Endocrinology at William Harvey Research Institute, Barts and the London School of Medicine & Dentistry, Queen Mary, University of London. He led the Paediatric Endocrine Unit from 1982 to 2007 and is internationally renowned for his work on growth disorders, particularly GH-IGF-1 axis abnormalities. He published the first human case of an IGF-1 gene defect in 1996 and has made significant contributions to managing growth disorders and Cushing Syndrome. Martin has also defined precision medicine in paediatric endocrine disorders.
He has excelled in leadership, serving as General Secretary of the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE) and Chairman of the British Society for Paediatric Endocrinology. Martin has received honorary memberships from several international societies and has lectured in 61 countries. He has published over 450 articles, reviews, and books with over 22,000 citations. Martin has supervised 9 PhD and MD projects and hosted 19 visiting research fellows. He secured funding for the Martin Savage Research Fellowships in Paediatric Endocrinology.
Martin has received numerous awards, including the ESPE Andrea Prader Prize, Visionary Award from the American Human Growth Foundation, and the British Society of Paediatric Endocrinology & Diabetes James M. Tanner Lifetime Achievement Award.
