Donald Paterson Award application

Donald Paterson (1890-1969) was a founder member and first Honorary Secretary of the British Paediatric Association. Latterly, he returned to his native Canada to become Professor of Paediatrics at the University of British Columbia.

Eligibility criteria

The Donald Paterson Prize is awarded to the author of the best article on any subject related to paediatrics published or accepted for publication within two years prior to 1 December 2025.

It is open to medical practitioners who are registered in the UK and working in pre-consultant grades at the time the relevant scientific article is accepted for publication.

Prize

The winner will receive their award, consisting of a monetary prize of £200 and certificate, at RCPCH Conference in May 2026. Day entry to the conference will be provided, including reasonable expenses.

Scoring process

Articles submitted for the award will be judged by an adjudicating panel established RCPCH, with respect to innovation, presentation, quality and scientific value.

The panel may in exceptional circumstances award the prize jointly.

The results of the competition will be announced in March 2026.
