In response to the announcement, RCPCH President, Professor Steve Turner, said:
Paediatricians have seen firsthand the explosion in demand for mental health and neurodiverse conditions such as autism and ADHD in children. It is crucial that this review will recognise and explore the different needs of children and young people relative to adults, particularly the importance of timely care during these important years of development, education and learning.
This review represents a vital opportunity to listen, learn, and adapt to the evolving needs of children and young people. We are committed to working closely with RCPsych and other key partners to ensure that the voices of paediatricians and young people are heard. The College looks forward to engaging fully with this process and help shape services that deliver timely, effective care for today and the future.
