Reflections on the SPS Summer Meeting June 2025

Dr Christine Findlay, Scottish Paediatric Society President, reflects on the Summer Meeting 2025, which took place in June at the Stirling Court Hotel.

The 2025 Summer Meeting of the Scottish Paediatric Society took place at the Stirling Court Hotel, set within the picturesque grounds of Stirling University. Around 80 delegates were in attendance with lots of opportunities to catch up with friends and colleagues from other centres in a relaxed and friendly forum.

Thank you to Dr Kristyna Bohmova (NHS Forth Valley) for hosting the day and to the whole of the SPS Committee for their tireless commitment behind the scenes in organising the day. A special mention must also go to our wonderful secretary, Dr Lana O’Hara.

The programme followed a now recognised format with a session for research/audit/QI presentations (five in total) and another for clinical cases (five) delivered by medical students and trainees selected by scoring of abstract submissions ahead of the day. Twelve posters were also on display.

Prizes were awarded for the best presentation in each category with one for the overall winner (Dr Rory Tweed, University Hospital Crosshouse). The hot topics session featured four presentations offering a diverse range of learning opportunities, bringing us up to date with new developments in the management of Kawasaki Disease, childhood asthma, education through simulation and RCPCH Pilot project “Thrive”.

Thanks to all of the guest speakers involved: Drs Kirsty McLellan, Kenneth MacLeod, Kathleen Collins, Dan Hufton, Philippa Wood and Professor Simon Edgar.

The spirit of the day was captured in a series of photos which are included below for your enjoyment.
