Why has this data been collected?
The Royal College of Child and Paediatric Health provides a range of training resources on child health for both non-healthcare professionals and healthcare professionals, including within our exam training and assessment for paediatrics. We need videos and images of child health conditions to enable us to train and assess individuals appropriately.
Under UKGDPR we need a legal basis to process your personal data. We generally rely on consent of the child and/or parent or carer to use the training video or image. However, sometimes we need to use historical footage or images where we cannot find an alternative representing a certain health condition. Where we have been unable to renew consent due to the age of the material, we rely on alternative legal grounds to process the personal data in these videos and images:
“Public Task” – Where we need to process your personal data to carry out a task in the public interest.
Because the image or video captured relates to a health condition, we also need an additional legal ground to process your data as this is considered special category data.
This is as follows:
“Public Health” - Where processing is necessary for reasons of public interest in the area of public health…ensuring high standards of quality and safety of health care.
In this instance the public task is to train individuals to recognise and treat healthcare conditions, which could save lives. Where these are used in exams, this is to ensure we maintain a high standard of quality and safety in healthcare by providing a high standard of training to our paediatricians to ensure they are appropriately qualified.
Who might we share your information with?
The videos and images will be made available to trainees as part of the specific training course or exam that they undertake. Any training online, requires registration and a log in and password.
How long will we keep your data?
We will keep these recordings or images until you contact us to withdraw your consent (if we are able to do so without severely impacting the public interest), until they are no longer clinically relevant or until they are replaced with an alternative.
Transferring information outside of the UK
Some of the servers we use to maintain the RCPCH website may transfer and process information in countries outside of the UK. Some of these countries, such as those in the EEA, will have an officially recognised equivalent level of protection to the UK (adequacy decision). A list of these countries can be found via the ICO website. Where there is no adequacy decision, the RCPCH will take all reasonable steps necessary to ensure that your information is protected by having in place a recognised safeguard with partners and suppliers, such as regulatory approved UK International Transfer Agreements, Binding Corporate Rules or Codes of Conduct.
To find out more about any specific uses of information in countries outside of the UK, or for further information about the safeguards that we have put in place, please contact the RCPCH Data Protection Officer: information.governance@rcpch.ac.uk.
