Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health is a core participant in the Thirlwall Inquiry.

The RCPCH extends its sympathies to parents and wider family members whose children were killed or harmed during 2015 and 2016.
RCPCH conducted a service review of the Countess of Chester hospital’s neonatal service in 2016. At the time of the review, Lucy Letby had been redeployed from clinical duties and was no longer working on the neonatal unit.
RCPCH has provided evidence to the Thirlwall Inquiry regarding this review and related issues to the Inquiry’s terms of reference. The College now awaits the recommendations of the Inquiry, set to be published in Autumn 2025.
The RCPCH is fully committed to working with the Thirlwall Inquiry to ensure that lessons are learned, both for the College and wider healthcare systems across the UK.
