Dr Steve Bennett Britton was born on 8 December 1945 and grew up overlooking the Downs in Bristol. He was educated at Bristol Grammar School and Peterhouse, Cambridge. He completed his medical studies at Westminster Hospital.

Steve always wished to become a paediatrician and trained at Great Ormond Street. In 1978 he moved to Canada to work at the Hospital for Sick Kids in Toronto, where he also completed research at the neonatal unit.

He returned to the UK in 1981 and worked as a locum consultant at various hospitals before securing a permanent position as consultant paediatrician at Good Hope in Sutton Coldfield in 1984, where he worked until 2010. During this period he was an active member of the RCPCH, serving as both regional representative for the West Midlands and an active contributor to the Medicines Committee.

Following his retirement he remained keen to continue supporting the sector, so became an examiner for the MRCPCH and Diploma of Child Health.

Once retired, Steve moved to Edgbaston. He enjoyed listening to classical music and opera, playing bridge and gardening in his beloved allotment.

He is survived by his wife, Jill, and three sons, Tom, Phil and Chris.
