Research
We promote high quality research, support the development of paediatric researchers, and contribute directly to the evidence base.
The British Paediatric Surveillance Unit (BPSU) is a world-leading centre for rare paediatric disease surveillance. It enables doctors and researchers to investigate how many children in the UK and Republic of Ireland are affected by rare diseases, conditions, or treatments each year.
Quality improvement and patient safety
We support our members and the wider child health workforce to be at the forefront of continuous quality improvement, providing opportunities to develop and share QI work and co-produce solutions with children and young people, and their families.
On quality improvement and patient safety
Paediatricians and their colleagues regularly use clinical guidelines to manage the treatment of children's medical conditions. We produce guidelines in line with our NICE accreditation. We provide a directory and support specialty groups to develop guidelines.
Our invited review service gives healthcare organisations an opportunity to adopt a proactive approach in seeking assurances on the care for infants, children and young people. Working with a team of independent, expert peer reviewers, organisations can address areas of concern and identify scope for quality improvement.
About our invited review service
Our clinical audits aim to improve care and health outcomes for babies, children, and young people. They include audits of clinical care, which are commissioned by the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership as well as audits of service standards, run in collaboration with affiliated specialty groups.
Digital health
Digital health technologies involve a broad range of skills, and these are important to shape and improve healthcare delivery and patient outcomes. The College’s new Digital Healthcare Programme aims to support members with digital skills in paediatrics and child health and understand which digital solutions are used by members and the impact of these technologies on child health.
